A Blackbaud Case Study
Winthrop University, a public four-year institution with about 4,500–5,000 undergraduates, needed to raise funds for its Student Emergency & Assistance Fund, improve stewardship, and maintain business continuity after campus closure during the COVID-19 crisis. The university participated in #GivingTuesdayNow and required remote tools to keep advancement operations and student caller programs running.
By using Blackbaud Guided Fundraising and a JustGiving campaign, Winthrop raised nearly $30,000 for the emergency fund, stewarded more than 3,355 donors through a 3½-week thank-a-thon with remote student callers, and sent over 5,000 texts that generated an additional $2,700+. The effort kept student callers employed, improved outreach efficiency, and was supported by Blackbaud solutions for fundraising, engagement, fund accounting, and data services.
