Westside Community Services, founded in 1967, is one of the nation’s oldest community-based mental health agencies, serving more than 3,500 San Francisco residents each year — many of whom are low-income, uninsured, homeless, or living with severe mental illness or HIV/AIDS. The organization struggled with an outdated legacy accounting system that made reporting slow, manual, and unintuitive, leading to late or imprecise budget decisions and frequent end-of-period spending rushes.
Westside implemented Blackbaud Financial Edge, converting easily from Fundware with support from experienced consultants and training. The new system provides multi-level, self-serve reporting from the dashboard and view-only access for directors, allowing accurate financial reports to be produced in minutes. As a result, staff now spend less time building reports and more time analyzing data and advancing the agency’s mission, while the fiscal manager can better reconcile contracts and monitor progress toward goals.
