A Blackbaud Case Study
The West End Home Foundation, originally founded after the Civil War as Nashville’s “Old Woman’s Home,” reoriented in 2002 into a grantmaking organization that has since distributed nearly $15 million to nonprofits serving older adults. As its 16-member board reviewed roughly 60 agencies each year, the foundation struggled with manual, paper-based application review and limited ability to track outcomes or measure impact.
Implementing Blackbaud Grantmaking moved the foundation to an online application and reviewer workflow that assigns and tracks applications, lets board members access materials remotely, and enables real-time oversight. The change eliminated bulky printed packets, saved an estimated 20 days of administrative time per grant cycle, improved accountability, and provided richer data to support more strategic, impact-focused grantmaking.
