A Blackbaud Case Study
The YWCA of Calgary, which provides programs to break cycles of domestic violence, homelessness and poverty, aimed to boost funds and online engagement for its annual "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" fundraiser. For 2009 the organization wanted to raise an additional $50,000 over the prior year and better leverage a new website and online event tools to enhance the event's online presence.
Working with Blackbaud Strategic Consulting and using Blackbaud NetCommunity, the YWCA enabled walkers and teams to create personal fundraising pages, used targeted email communications, and applied competitive incentives (tiered prizes, trophies passed to next-year winners, public leaderboards and sponsor-run fun awards). Those tactics increased participant engagement and helped the event surpass its $150,000 goal by more than $21,000.
