The Ocean Institute, a nationally recognized provider of hands-on marine science, environmental education, and maritime history programs, serves more than 110,000 K–12 students and 8,000 teachers annually through six immersion-style programs. The Institute struggled with a customized database that made pulling information difficult, wanted to send more personalized communications to diverse constituents, and needed online event registration, membership and donation processing that would automatically update its database.
To address these needs the Institute implemented Blackbaud NetCommunity to maintain its website, send well-designed e‑communications with open and click‑through tracking, and provide an online portal for its 400 volunteers to share information and resources. As a result, email click‑through rates average 30–40%, staff save significant time gathering database information, and the organization can design better, data-driven communications using NetCommunity’s reporting and tracking.
