A Blackbaud Case Study
The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA) is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to protecting Utah’s Red Rock Wilderness. When plans to reduce Bears Ears National Monument were announced, SUWA faced an urgent, low-budget challenge to mobilize existing supporters and recruit new advocates quickly to oppose the rollbacks.
Using Blackbaud’s advocacy, social engagement and analytics tools, SUWA identified socially active supporters who mentioned “Bears Ears,” built a look‑alike audience, and ran targeted Facebook ads linked to a responsive petition. In two days they gained 1,400 new advocates for $0.38 each (81% cheaper than an acquisition firm), acquired new donors at $0.23 per lead, and saw initial donations cover nearly half the ad spend, allowing them to grow and sustain their campaign.
