A Blackbaud Case Study
South Jersey Dream Center, a nonprofit tackling poverty in South Jersey, struggled to convey its impact despite strong programs and data. Executive Director Natalie Fortunato had a lengthy case statement that lacked storytelling, compelling design, and easy-to-use data for fundraising and outreach—limiting the center’s ability to engage supporters and win timely grants during rising community needs.
After attending Blackbaud University’s Case Statements workshop and using Blackbaud eTapestry for data, the center transformed its materials into a concise, data-backed, “living” case for support. The new document improved messaging and pitch materials, helped secure more than $6,000 in COVID-19 relief funding, and made it easier to showcase outcomes (including half a million pounds of donated goods), saving time and strengthening overall fundraising and communications.
