Science World, the iconic Vancouver science centre that serves over 860,000 annual visitors and delivers outreach to 145,000 students and teachers across British Columbia, faced an 85% revenue drop when COVID-19 closed its doors—putting its education programs at risk. The nonprofit needed a fast, trustworthy peer-to-peer fundraising solution to protect those programs and re-engage supporters.
Joining an early-access program for JustGiving® from Blackbaud, Science World launched The World Needs More Nerds Nerd-a-thon—an easy-to-personalize campaign that integrated online and offline gifts, merchandise, celebrity endorsements and corporate matches. The campaign raised more than $150,000 in the first two months, attracted national coverage, secured $150,000 in matching gifts and was projected to surpass $400,000, allowing Science World to sustain outreach work and reinforce public trust in science.
