A Blackbaud Case Study
The Portland Museum of Art, the largest and oldest art museum in Maine with a collection of more than 17,000 objects across three historic buildings, faced a major data challenge: visitor-facing “front house” information was siloed from donor, member, and development “back house” systems. Multiple departments used separate databases for ticketing, membership, education, and marketing, leaving staff unable to track visits, measure engagement, or reliably reach potential members and donors.
The Museum implemented Altru™ from Blackbaud as a single, web-based platform to provide a centralized, 360-degree view of constituents—at a price comparable to a standalone ticketing system but with much broader functionality. Altru eliminated duplicate data entry, produced cleaner, real-time data, freed staff for strategic work, and enabled better customer service, visitor tracking, membership cultivation, and coordinated event and fundraising planning.
