A Blackbaud Case Study
Montreal General Hospital Foundation, which raises and manages funds to support the Montreal General Hospital, the MUHC and the McGill academic health network, launched the Code Life Ventilator Challenge when COVID-19 threatened global ventilator supply. The two-week global sprint invited engineers and scientists to design low-cost, easily produced emergency ventilators to address urgent clinical needs.
To fund and rapidly solicit donor support, the foundation used Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT and Blackbaud web donation forms alongside targeted media and email outreach, enabling quick online giving. The campaign drew more than 2,600 registrations from over 1,000 teams in 94 countries; nine concepts moved to intensive testing and three finalists received CAD 200,000, 100,000 and 50,000 respectively to refine and share their designs.
