Case Study: Los Angeles Regional Food Bank achieves more than 450% increase in major gift dollars with Blackbaud

A Blackbaud Case Study

Preview of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Case Study

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank meet COVID-19 challenges, attract 15 times more new donors, and increase major gift dollars by 450%

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, one of the largest food banks in the U.S., faced a sudden COVID-driven surge—62,738 new donors in 2020 (15× the prior year)—and needed to quickly identify and prioritize major-gift prospects to support a $165 million, five-year comprehensive campaign while sustaining unprecedented demand for services.

Using Blackbaud’s data intelligence (wealth insights, predictive modeling) together with Raiser’s Edge NXT and Luminate Online, the development team identified 2,000–3,000 top prospects, expanded staff, and focused cultivation. The result: major gift dollars rose more than 450% (major gifts revenue from $3.1M in 2019 to an average of $17.3M over the next two years), 11 gifts of $1M+, the $165M campaign completed a year early, and sustained growth in donor engagement and service reach.
