A Blackbaud Case Study
Lawndale Christian Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center serving low-income Chicago residents with medical, dental, pharmacy, behavioral health and other services—completing about 164,800 visits a year. With roughly 20 grants (about one-third of revenue) and a seven-person financial team supporting a 500-employee organization, Lawndale struggled to manage complex, changing reporting requirements, track reimbursable grant expenses, and keep IT-related updates prioritized.
Lawndale adopted Blackbaud’s Financial Edge NXT, whose nonprofit-centric general ledger, reporting templates, Advanced Budget Management, A/P and cloud delivery simplified reporting, budgeting and approvals and enabled secure, browser-based report sharing. The move produced measurable gains: faster drill-down reporting and a three-day first-pass budget, 15–20 hours/month saved on reporting, 15–20 hours/week from A/P/WebPortal efficiencies, 64 hours/year on budgeting, ~40 IT hours saved annually, and a 25% reduction in audit staffing (about $15,000 saved).
