Preble Street is a Portland, Maine nonprofit that delivers shelters, outreach, food, health, and anti-trafficking services to people experiencing homelessness and poverty. Faced with a surge in donor activity during the pandemic and ongoing administrative bottlenecks, the organization needed faster, more reliable ways to process major gifts, manage grant projects, and surface high-capacity volunteer prospects without overburdening staff.

Preble Street’s data team, led by Nicole Holt, extended Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT with Certified Connectors to the Microsoft Power Platform to build tailored automations—starting with an overnight large-gift digest and workflows linking gift documentation in SharePoint to donor records. In 2.5 years they launched about 20 automations that save up to 10 staff hours per week, improve data hygiene and grant tracking, help the grants team meet funding goals, and enable more strategic donor and volunteer engagement.
