Diocese of Richmond quickly moves to online offertory to ‘keep the lights on’ during COVID-19 crisis

The Catholic Community Foundation of the Diocese of Richmond faced a sudden fundraising crisis when COVID-19 closed church doors and disrupted in-pew offertories for more than 140 parishes. With fewer than half of parishes previously offering online giving and urgent community needs at stake, the diocese needed a fast way to sustain ministry, staff, and school support.

Partnering with Blackbaud, the diocese launched an e-giving portal using Blackbaud Online Express and integrated donations into Raiser’s Edge NXT, enabling outreach to 32,000 contacts. The quick roll-out drove immediate results — more than 170 donations on day one — and provided a reliable channel to support parishes through Holy Week, maintain services to those in need, and keep operations running.
