Dayton Children's Hospital Raises the Bar with donorCentrics from Target Analytics

Dayton Children’s Hospital, which serves roughly 290,000 children, needed to strengthen its annual giving program and better identify revenue opportunities across channels. The development team was especially focused on benchmarking retention and reactivation for direct mail, Children’s Miracle Network fundraising, special events and online giving, but lacked a baseline and a formal strategic plan to guide improvements.

They joined Target Analytics’ donorCentrics benchmarking service to compare performance with peer hospitals and access the Overall Performance Report and in-person peer sessions. Using those insights they implemented targeted stewardship (welcome packets, upgraded acknowledgements, tax statements with decals, biannual donor newsletters), finer segmentation and recurring giving changes for programs like Radiothon. Within a year overall retention rose 13.5%, new donor retention improved 16%, donor counts grew 31.9%, revenue increased 14.5%, and the hospital achieved back-to-back record fundraising years and a three-year strategic plan.
