Building on the Momentum for BrownTogether and Its Vision

Brown University launched the BrownTogether campaign in 2015 to fuel its strategic vision of tackling 21st‑century challenges by investing in people, research, campus infrastructure and the student experience. The university faced the dual challenge of raising major capital to accelerate research (from cancer and Alzheimer’s to nanoscale and biomedical engineering), recruit and retain top scholars, expand state‑of‑the‑art facilities, and dramatically strengthen financial aid to reduce student debt and meet 100% of demonstrated undergraduate need.

BrownTogether mobilized more than 66,000 donors to raise over $3 billion, including $347 million for financial aid and The Brown Promise, which removed loans for 1,500+ students and cut the share of students incurring debt by 56%. The campaign funded 110 endowed professorships, a new Engineering Research Center, a $100 million gift for the Carney Institute for Brain Science, major athletics and facility investments, and record annual giving; having surpassed its $3 billion target more than a year early, the university is extending the campaign to continue supporting scholarships and faculty research.
