A Blackbaud Case Study
The Boy Scouts of America, one of the nation’s largest youth-development organizations, needed a unified online giving experience for more than 300 local councils with widely varying technical and fundraising capabilities. Key challenges were avoiding cannibalization of local donations, extending BSA branding to micro-communities, and creating a system that worked for both the national organization and individual councils.
Blackbaud’s Sphere Enterprise delivered web-based donation, memorial and tribute forms with a zip-code lookup to route donors to their local council, email tools for customized outreach, and merchant services that pay donations directly to each council. The result was sustained online-giving growth (+78% in 2006, +115% in 2007, +52% in 2008), nearly 4.5 million emails sent to the constituency, and a #1 Google ranking for “Donate to Boy Scouts,” outranking the main BSA site.
