A Blackbaud Case Study
The Archdiocese of Indianapolis’ Office of Stewardship and Development raises funds through the Christ Our Hope appeal to support parish ministries and social services. Facing a recession, declining donations, staff turnover and as many as a third of its 151 parishes running capital campaigns, the development team relied on pastor appeals and direct mail and lacked the capacity to qualify prospects from an 80,000‑record database—limiting one‑on‑one work to just 150–200 major donor prospects.
The archdiocese adopted ProspectPoint (Blackbaud Target Analytics) integrated with Raiser’s Edge to model giving propensity and prioritize donors, expanding its major‑donor universe to 2,500 and then more than 6,000 and assigning relationship managers. Between 2008 and 2010 major donors grew from 442 to 659, mid‑level and major gifts rose from $1.2M to $1.6M, and donors who gave in both 2009 and 2010 drove a 37% boost in ministry support, enabling more targeted asks and sustained growth.
