A Blackbaud Case Study
Alzheimer’s Research UK, which raises funds for dementia research through supporter-led virtual events, had planned a year‑long “Treble Challenge” combining running, cycling and swimming. When COVID‑19 lockdowns made swimming and some outdoor activities impossible, the charity faced the sudden need to rethink messaging, timing and event formats to keep supporters engaged and fundraising.
Working with Blackbaud and JustGiving, they fast‑tracked the Cycling Down Dementia launch from October to April, updated imagery and messaging to include indoor cycling, and used existing fitness‑tracking and microsite infrastructure to move quickly. Within weeks the event raised over £20,000 with more than 250 participants and a fundraising conversion rate above 50%; they also expanded into virtual quizzes and partner events that have helped raise an additional £220,000 to date.
