AltaSea, a 35-acre ocean research and innovation campus at the Port of Los Angeles, brings together science, business, and education to advance ocean sustainability. Faced with an ambitious $140 million Phase I capital campaign and a small development team, AltaSea needed a fundraising system that could manage major-donor relationships, track outreach and activity, and support broad staff participation.

AltaSea moved from Excel to Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge and then to Raiser’s Edge NXT with Online Express, gaining a mobile, cloud-based platform with unlimited user access. The solution enabled real-time tracking of meetings and action items, allowed interns and campaign committee members to contribute, and supported effective email outreach (a 31% open rate), helping the organization stay on track toward its fundraising goals.
