Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Transit Authority - Customer Case Study

The Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Transit Authority needed to strengthen security across its large Metrorail system and contracted Black Box Network Services as one of three vendors on a $35 million electronic security and safety devices program to design and deploy a digital video camera network and supporting infrastructure at each station.

Black Box Network Services conducted detailed site surveys and CAD planning, installed five‑megapixel cameras at every station, ran and tested CAT6 and fiber cabling, and configured hardened network switches with minimal disruption to passengers and staff. The deployment delivered full‑station surveillance coverage across WMATA’s 86 stations and more than 100 miles of track, improved operational security, and led to follow‑on work for Black Box—adding IP cameras in six new stations, SOCC security features, and Silver Line kiosk video.
