A Black Box Network Services Case Study
Diageo, the world’s leading premium alcoholic beverage manufacturer, faced poor cellular and wireless coverage at its North American headquarters in Norwalk, CT, where employees (more than 1,300 onsite) frequently had to stand by windows to make calls and could not reliably receive smartphone email. To deliver constant, flexible broadband wireless—supporting 3G/4G, two‑way radio and fire/life/safety communications—Diageo engaged Black Box Network Services (with IBM Global Services – Integrated Technology Services) to provide a distributed antenna system (DAS).
IBM ITS and Black Box Network Services conducted onsite surveys, custom‑designed and installed the DAS, and manage the end‑to‑end solution, linking the system to national carriers including T‑Mobile, AT&T and Sprint. The BBNS deployment now provides uninterrupted 3G/4G and two‑way radio coverage across the facility, enabling real‑time access to data and voice for all Norwalk employees, improved mobility and communications, scalable bandwidth as needs change, and first‑responder connectivity.
