City of Redondo Beach - Customer Case Study

The City of Redondo Beach, a coastal California municipality of about 67,000 residents, faced rising demand for advanced applications and mission‑critical public‑safety services while operating a lean IT staff and tight budgets. To gain reliability, capacity, and easier management without adding headcount, the City chose an Avaya network solution and engaged Black Box Network Services to design and implement the upgrade.

Black Box Network Services deployed Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 8800 and 4850 series equipment with Avaya Fabric Connect, replacing 43 switches and two core routers and completing the rollout ahead of schedule (upgrading two additional locations per week). The project cut routine network extension time from 1–2 hours to under five minutes, reduced conservative outage estimates from up to four hours to 30 minutes or less, enabled expanded Wi‑Fi and future video surveillance, and delivered measurable time savings and greater public‑safety reliability for the City of Redondo Beach.
