Alumina Refinery extends control room access 100 meters with Black Box

Alumina Refinery, one of the largest alumina refineries outside of Brazil, needed to upgrade its automation system with new servers but faced a major challenge. Their existing KVM extender solution was incompatible with the new servers' DVI video interface, preventing control room operators from accessing the critical systems located 50 meters away. The refinery required a reliable solution from a trusted vendor and reached out to Black Box Network Services for an advanced KVM system that supported Full HD DVI video and signal extension beyond 50 meters.

Black Box implemented its Emerald SE KVM extension solution, which met the refinery's requirements for distance and video quality. This point-to-point system allowed operators to seamlessly access the new servers from their control room workstations, streamlining workflows and enhancing operations by providing a clear view of refinery processes. The solution also offers a future upgrade path to a matrix switching system with Boxilla KVM Manager, ensuring the refinery can expand its operations.
