Agnico Eagle Mines Limited operates a large gold mine in Kittilä, Lapland, and faced a harsh industrial environment that made it unsafe to keep computer CPUs in the control room while operators needed multiple monitors and camera feeds to monitor production. To solve the signal-extension and KVM-switching challenge, Agnico Eagle worked with Black Box Network Services and deployed Black Box ServSwitch Wizard Dual‑Access Quad‑Head Extenders (ACU5142A) and a ServSelect III KVM solution.

Black Box Network Services extended video and keyboard/mouse signals about 75 feet over CATx with skew compensation so CPUs could be housed in a protected computer room while operators used multi-monitor stations; the ServSelect III enables two operators to control up to 16 servers. The solution delivered safe computing, reliable, problem‑free operation since installation, eliminated extra equipment and cabling, and produced measurable equipment cost savings.
