Case Study: NAGRA achieves industry-leading anti-piracy protection and superior video quality for virtual cinemas and film festivals with Bitmovin

A Bitmovin Case Study

Preview of the NAGRA Case Study

Adapting and collaborating to create industry leading anti-piracy and video quality standards for virtual cinema and film festival experiences

Eventive, a festival ticketing and audience‑management platform founded in 2018, pivoted to streaming when the COVID‑19 pandemic halted in‑person cinema and festivals. Rapid growth exposed a surge in online piracy and made it clear that standard DRM alone wouldn’t fully protect valuable film screenings, so Eventive needed a fast, scalable security solution that could integrate with its existing platform and preserve high video quality for virtual cinema experiences.

Eventive partnered with NAGRA and Bitmovin to combine NAGRA Multi‑DRM and NexGuard server‑side A/B forensic watermarking with Bitmovin’s split‑and‑stitch, Per‑Title encoder. The integration — completed in just over three months — delivers unique A/B segment sequences per viewer, preserves UHD quality while speeding encoding, and enables rapid identification and takedown of leaks. The result: millions of protected streams for 1,000+ partners, measurable deterrence of piracy, quicker time to market for customers, and a new security and quality standard for virtual festivals and screenings.
