Northeast Iowa Community College teaches ransomware a lesson

Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC), serving more than 5,000 students across two campuses and 11 locations, was facing malware and ransomware that bypassed its legacy endpoint protection—once taking 3–4 days to recover files—and lacked support for its 99% virtualized environment and centralized management. After evaluating vendors, NICC chose Bitdefender and its GravityZone Business Security to address these gaps.

Bitdefender deployed GravityZone Business Security on premise to protect about 100 VMware virtual servers and ~250 VDI clients, and in the cloud to secure more than 2,100 student desktops, laptops and tablets, with full rollout in 2–3 days. With Bitdefender, NICC has seen zero endpoint infections in four years, far fewer false positives, security updates reduced from weeks to seconds, daily administration cut to 90 minutes or less (with ~1 hour/week for virtual endpoints), and successful avoidance of major outbreaks like WannaCry.
