Major U.S. university boosts infrastructure efficiency

Major U.S. University, a research-focused institution with more than 20,000 students and 5,000 employees, faced rising cyber risks from its open networks and was experiencing slow, hard-to-manage endpoints under Avast that consumed large amounts of memory, missed infections, and generated many IT support calls. After proof-of-concept testing, the university chose Bitdefender and its GravityZone solution to provide cross-platform protection for Windows, Mac, Linux and VMware environments.

Bitdefender deployed GravityZone Enterprise Security with the GravityZone On‑Premises Management Console to protect 7,000 desktops, 200 physical servers and 500 VMs, simplifying management and offloading scans to an on‑premise server. The switch cut security admin time from 15–20 hours to 2–3 hours per week, reduced endpoint memory footprint by about 90% (15–20 MB vs. 180–200 MB), increased virtualization density, avoided roughly $15,000 in server purchases, and sped application load times — delivering stronger protection and noticeably better system performance.
