Mercy Hospitals, a large Oklahoma-based health system, needed to modernize a massive backlog of paper records while also preparing to meet federal requirements for electronic patient records. Their initial conversion effort produced poor-quality scans and an inefficient CD-based upload process, creating frustration for staff and slowing access to patient information. BIS, Inc. was brought in to help solve these records conversion and management challenges.

BIS, Inc. used its Data Migration Center (DMC) to scan, index, and securely process Mercy’s records off-site, then upload the digital files directly into Mercy’s content management and retrieval system. Over seven years, BIS converted more than 10,000 boxes into 26,099,885 high-quality images, helped Mercy achieve compliance a year ahead of schedule, reduced records retrieval from hours or days to minutes, lowered costs, and improved patient care through faster, more accurate access to records.
