Hammond Communications Taps BirdDog P200 For NCAA March Madness Press Conferences

Hammond Communications was tasked with producing over 500 press conferences for the 2021 NCAA March Madness tournaments while operating within stringent COVID-19 safety guidelines. Their challenge was to deliver high-quality video content for media distribution while maintaining social distance between production crews, athletes, and coaches. To meet this need, they consulted with BirdDog and selected their P200 PTZ cameras for the project.

BirdDog's solution utilized the P200 cameras to create a centralized, socially-distanced production system. The BirdDog P200s were mounted above monitors in interview pods, allowing for a much smaller equipment footprint and remote operation. The cameras' multiple output options enabled seamless integration; NDI was used for remote control, while SDI fed the main program feed. This setup was successfully used across 11 venues, delivering over 100 hours of content to networks like CBS/Turner and streaming services. The NCAA responded positively to the COVID-safe system, which allowed media involvement as in a standard tournament year.
