Emporia High School Students Produce Live Sports with BirdDog Mini and NDI

Emporia High School in rural Kansas, led by Electronic Media Specialist Matthew Fowler, sought to teach live production to its students by streaming sports events. The challenge was overcoming the complexity and slow setup time of traditional "old school" video equipment, which took up to two hours, and a lack of access to specialized SDI cables and hardware in their remote location. The school turned to BirdDog and its Mini product to implement an IP-based workflow.

By deploying BirdDog Mini NDI encoders powered by PoE, the students could quickly set up three camera feeds using standard, readily available networking gear. This solution drastically reduced setup time from two hours to just thirty minutes, making live production faster and more efficient. BirdDog's technology enabled the student team to create a more professional production and eliminated their dependency on outdated and hard-to-source SDI equipment.
