Top 5 U.S. Bank Launches Behavioral Biometrics to Stop Account Takeover Attack Using Zelle Payments

Top 5 U.S. Bank was facing a sustained account takeover attack in which cybercriminals used social engineering to steal online banking credentials, then enroll customers into Zelle and initiate fraudulent real-time payments. The bank needed a way to detect suspicious activity quickly enough to stop fast-moving fraud in the Zelle payment flow, and it was already using BioCatch behavioral biometrics for account takeover detection.

BioCatch extended its behavioral biometrics platform to login, the user dashboard, and high-risk actions such as Zelle enrollment and payments. By analyzing more than 2,000 behavioral risk indicators, BioCatch flagged fraudulent sessions with no reported false positives, stopping over $170,000 in fraud attempts in the first weekend and preventing more than $300,000 in losses over three weeks, including 312 attack sessions detected.
