Top 4 Australian Bank Uses Behavioral Insights to Detect 66% of Voice Scams Resulting in Reduced Fraud Losses

Top 4 Australian Bank was facing a growing wave of voice scams targeting consumer and small-business customers. These hybrid social-engineering attacks were hard to spot because the victim’s own device, location, and network often looked legitimate, and scammers sometimes used remote access tools to take over banking sessions. The bank partnered with BioCatch to strengthen behavioral analytics and improve fraud detection.

Using BioCatch’s behavioral biometrics and social engineering voice scam model, the bank was able to detect 66% of actual scam sessions with BioCatch risk scores of 800 or higher, while only 1.8% of total transactions fell into that range. Over six months, BioCatch helped the bank fine-tune alerts, better identify RAT activity, and improve decisions around investigation, liability, and reimbursement, resulting in reduced fraud losses.
