BCU Reduces Fraud from Zelle Impostor Scams Up to 95% After Deploying Behavioral Biometric Intelligence

BCU, one of the top 100 credit unions in the U.S., needed to protect its members from rising Zelle impostor scams tied to voice and SMS phishing. Fraudsters were tricking users into revealing one-time passcodes to enroll in Zelle and move money out of accounts, creating significant fraud exposure and operational risk.

BCU implemented BioCatch’s behavioral biometric intelligence and device intelligence to continuously monitor the full digital banking session and detect account takeover, remote access, and suspicious enrollment behavior. With BioCatch, BCU reduced Zelle fraud by up to 95% from peak months, cut average monthly losses from about $80,000 to less than $10,000, and projected avoiding up to $4 million in annual losses during the highest-impact periods.
