How Unity College improved the user access experience and relieved the IT help desk of password-related administrative tasks

Unity College, a higher education institution in Maine serving more than 900 users, needed a better way to unify access to its growing set of applications and services. As more systems were added, students and faculty faced inconsistent logins, forgotten passwords, and low adoption of available IT tools. The college turned to BIO-key and its PortalGuard solution to create a single point of entry for Office 365, Canvas, SharePoint, and other campus systems.

BIO-key implemented PortalGuard as an on-premise, customizable identity management and SSO portal with SAML, CAS, and forms-based authentication, along with self-service password reset and built-in support for future multifactor authentication. The result was a more efficient and user-friendly experience: users could log in once to access multiple services, help desk password-reset requests were reduced, and awareness and adoption of IT services improved through the portal’s customizable front door and announcements features.
