Collier County SOE sought a stronger multifactor authentication approach to improve online security and protect election systems amid rising concerns about fraud and security. The team evaluated biometric options, including fingerprint, facial, and iris authentication, and ultimately selected BIO-key after researching peer reviews and trusted IT forums.

BIO-key implemented ID Director for Windows with EcoID and PRO-PIV FIPS-compliant fingerprint scanners to add biometric authentication to Active Directory and support Windows Hello sign-in. The solution reduced password resets, improved ease of use, and even enabled remote and roving worker authentication. Collier County reported that BIO-key met expectations and that the project cost less than anticipated.
