Clermont Northeastern Schools - Customer Case Study

Clermont Northeastern Schools, a K-12 district in Ohio serving about 5,000 users, needed to reduce repeated login prompts across Google Apps and Moodle while using a single Active Directory-based set of credentials. The district also wanted a more flexible self-service password reset option to improve adoption and reduce help desk strain. BIO-key’s PortalGuard platform was used to address these authentication and password management challenges.

BIO-key implemented PortalGuard as an on-premise identity provider to deliver single sign-on for Google Apps and Moodle, while also enabling self-service password reset with knowledge-based authentication. The solution synchronized usernames and passwords across Active Directory, Google Apps, and Moodle using GADS and GAPS, and even created Moodle accounts automatically through the AUTHSAML plug-in. The result was a simpler login experience, immediate password updates across systems, and reduced help desk calls; in a survey, 60% of students said they had forgotten their passwords, highlighting the value of the new self-service reset process.
