Bare Bones Uses Fancy Footwork, and Bill.com, to Meet Skyrocketing Demand

Bare Bones Broth, founded by Katherine Harvey and her husband Ryan, grew from a husband-and-wife side hustle into a $600K/month, five-employee food business selling across retail, Costco, Amazon and direct channels. Sudden celebrity-driven demand and then pandemic-era supply disruptions overwhelmed their small operation: stacks of paper invoices, vendors who required checks, and the CEO spending roughly 30 hours a week just on payables.

They implemented Bill.com (integrated with QuickBooks Enterprise) to move paper checks to electronic payments, eliminate back-office paper stacks, and gain better cash-flow control. Accounts payable time dropped by more than 83% (to about five hours a week), freeing the founders to manage supply-chain challenges so there was no loss of sales; the company continues fast growth (≈60% YoY, 1,500 stores, 80% online sales growth) with about 60 payables a month.
