Case Study: ViaSat achieves low-latency satellite connectivity with Bigleaf Networks

A Bigleaf Networks Case Study

ViaSat boosts satellite connectivity with Bigleaf, cutting latency from 600 ms to 40–60 ms

The customer, ViaSat, is a provider of geostationary (GEO) satellite internet service. Their challenge, and that of their customers, is the high latency inherent to GEO technology, which results in poor performance for real-time applications like video conferencing and VoIP, negatively impacting rural businesses.

The vendor, Bigleaf Networks, implemented its SD-WAN solution to intelligently combine multiple internet connections, including a new Starlink low earth orbit (LEO) link. Bigleaf's technology monitors all circuits in real-time, automatically routing traffic to the best available path to ensure performance and reliability. This provides the benefits of Starlink's lower latency without being subjected to its potential outages, resulting in optimized application performance and seamless connectivity for critical business operations.
