Stephenson Harwood embeds resource management

Stephenson Harwood embedded a new resource allocation approach to address uneven matter assignment and utilisation across its corporate and finance practices in London. Working with Mason & Cook (now part of BigHand), the firm adopted the Resource Management software platform to assign matters based on lawyers’ expertise, experience, capacity and interests, supporting fairness, equality of opportunity and the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion goals.

BigHand implemented the Resource Management platform after a successful six‑month pilot, underpinning decision‑making and enabling matters to be allocated to lawyers with capacity. The solution has delivered better, more balanced utilisation across practices, aligned work to lawyers’ skills and interests, broadened lawyers’ exposure to different matters and helped develop their skills—improving client support and internal resource fairness.
