HFW implements global resource management system after successful pilot

HFW, a global sector-focused law firm, needed to move from the traditional model of associates tied to partners to a flexible, firm-wide approach for allocating client matters based on expertise and real-time workload. To do this HFW instructed Mason & Cook (now part of BigHand) and adopted BigHand’s Resource Management software, with BigHand consultant Alex Trodd embedded to monitor lawyer utilisation and support implementation.

BigHand implemented a global resource management system that allocates matters by expertise and current capacity, improving balance and flexibility across teams; the Aerospace pilot delivered a 7.5% increase in utilisation worldwide and 20% in London over three months, and the system also enabled HFW to respond quickly and effectively to urgent client enquiries during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
