Case Study: DLA Piper achieves 36-hour remote-work transition and major efficiency gains with BigHand

A BigHand Case Study

Preview of the DLA Piper Case Study

DLA Piper moves to remote-working practices in 36 hours during Covid-19 pandemic as a result of strong IT infrastructure and technology support

DLA Piper, the global law firm, faced the abrupt need to shift to 100% remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic—threatening business continuity for an industry accustomed to office-based, siloed secretary-attorney relationships. Because the firm had already adopted a collaborative administrative model since 2011 and deployed BigHand’s legal workflow tool BigHand Now, DLA Piper was able to move its entire workforce to home-working in just 36 hours.

Using BigHand Now, DLA Piper implemented automated workflows, task delegation and shared queues across 28 US offices (rolled out in a five-week deployment), supported by a Firm-wide Administrative Support Team (FAST) of eight. The BigHand solution increased task throughput by 70%+ in April, enabled extended submission windows (to 9pm PT), reduced outsourcing and delivered measurable time and cost savings while preserving client service and business continuity.
