A BigHand Case Study
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Milton Keynes University Hospital / MKUH) is a digital leader in the NHS treating around 400,000 patients a year and employing over 3,000 staff. Faced with the inefficiencies of paper-based correspondence and long admin trails that delayed the patient journey, MKUH partnered with BigHand—deploying BigHand Digital Dictation, Clinic Builder, an outsourced transcription module and a Clinical Correspondence Suite—to modernise document workflows and reduce clinician administrative burden.
BigHand implemented an end-to-end Clinical Correspondence Platform integrated with the Trust’s EPR (including HL7 feeds), Clinic Builder and a Document Console for clinician sign-off, plus automated export/printing and patient delivery via the MyCARE portal. The solution cut template usage and approval time, sped up letter turnaround, enabled clinicians to dictate into live clinic lists, and delivered measurable savings of more than £13,000 per month in admin, postage and secretarial tasks while improving access to letters for clinicians, GPs and patients.
