Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust Transforms Clinical Correspondence Operations with BigHand

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, a geographically dispersed mental health and community services provider, needed to centralise secretarial services and replace an unreliable analogue dictation system to improve the accuracy and timeliness of clinical correspondence. After reviewing the market, the Trust chose BigHand and implemented BigHand’s Digital Dictation, Speech Recognition and Mobility software together with the healthcare workflow platform BigHand Correspond to support a virtual, mobile workforce.

BigHand’s solution—deployed with training and best-practice support—gave clinicians accurate, learning speech recognition, configurable workflows and visibility of workload so teams can prioritise urgent dictations and cross-cover across sites. The result: clinicians can dictate far faster (26 letters in under two hours in one example), average turnaround for clinical correspondence fell to about 10 days from roughly a month, urgent items were processed in two working days, and administrative agility and patient-care consistency improved.
