The City of Newton partnered with Bigbelly to address overflowing waste containers, litter, and an inconsistent recycling program across its busy village centers, parks, and schools. As a densely populated historic suburb of Boston, Newton needed a smarter way to manage public waste and reduce its environmental impact while improving the cleanliness of its public spaces.

Bigbelly implemented a citywide smart waste and recycling solution with 340 smart high and standard capacity units across 170 locations, supported by the CLEAN platform for real-time collection alerts. The deployment reduced collections by 88%, saved more than 100,000 collections per year, and enabled a 30% recycling diversion rate, capturing 191,136 gallons of recyclable waste annually while lowering truck rolls and operational congestion.
