A Bigbelly Case Study
The City of Albany, California, a waterfront community with busy parks, trails, and commercial areas, needed a better way to manage public waste, reduce litter and overflows, and prevent pests from using open trash bins as a food source. With more residents and visitors enjoying its public spaces, the city wanted a cleaner, more sustainable solution that could support recycling and composting while protecting the look and feel of the community.
Bigbelly provided a smart waste system with enclosed bins and multi-stream recycling and compost options, deployed across parks and commercial areas. The city now has 92 Bigbelly units in 47 locations, using Bigbelly CLEAN software for monitoring and collection efficiency. The results include reduced vermin, litter, overflows, and windblown trash, elimination of the rat problem in parks, and 225,206 gallons of waste captured in the last 12 months, with 56% diverted from landfills.
