Gwinnett County Public Library expands access with bibliotheca Open+ and reaches 44,919 after-hours visits

Gwinnett County Public Library faced the challenge of needing to expand its hours of operation to better serve its diverse community without the budget to add additional staff. To address this, the library partnered with bibliotheca to pilot its open+ access solution.

By implementing bibliotheca's open+ system, the library became the first in the US to offer extended self-service hours. This solution allowed branches to be open from 8am to 10pm without requiring more staff. The results were a dramatic increase in access, with yearly usage growing from 1,198 people during the pilot to nearly 45,000. The library has since incorporated open+ into its standard operating budget for new and renovated branches.
