The city of Venice, Italy, faced the challenge of replacing its deteriorating flood warning system. The previous system used unpleasant sirens with limited alert status and struggled to provide adequate coverage. To address this, the Venice Flood Warning System worked with vendor Biamp, via their brand Community Professional Loudspeakers, to implement a new audio solution using custom R.5-V2200 and RSH-462 loudspeakers for clear, city-wide alerts.

The Biamp solution involved a custom-designed loudspeaker system installed on church bell towers to ensure unimpeded sound coverage across the city and its islands. The new system delivers clear, synthesized flute-derived sounds that communicate four distinct water level warnings. This resulted in a wider coverage warning system that effectively alerts citizens when water levels are forecast to rise 2.9 feet or more, minimizing disruption in the bustling city.
