University of Vermont Medical Center improves HCAHPS quietness scores with Biamp

The University of Vermont Medical Center, a 447-bed tertiary care center, needed a solution to protect confidential patient information as mandated by HIPAA and to improve the acoustic comfort of its environment, which directly impacted its patient satisfaction scores. To meet this challenge, they worked with vendor Biamp to implement the Cambridge Qt Pro Sound Masking System.

Biamp's solution involved installing small, unobtrusive Qt Pro emitters throughout an inpatient wing to cover excess speech noise. This implementation led to a marked increase in the number of patients reporting that their rooms were always quiet at night on HCAHPS surveys. The positive results achieved with Biamp's energy-efficient system were so significant that the medical center is now installing it in all of its patient wings.
