St. Paul’s Union Depot improves 40,000 sq ft of event space acoustics with Biamp

St. Paul’s Union Depot, a historic transportation center and event space, faced the challenge of overcoming its highly reverberant acoustics and varying noise levels to provide clear paging and sound reinforcement. As a registered historic place, the depot was prohibited from using any acoustical treatments, making this a significant audio challenge for Biamp to solve.

Biamp implemented a solution using its Community ENTASYS column line arrays and ceiling loudspeakers, along with the Vocia Voice Communication System. The loudspeakers were custom-painted to blend with the historic decor and strategically placed to provide even coverage while minimizing reverberation. The Vocia system provided mixing, zoning, and ambient noise compensation. The result was the successful achievement of the project's intelligibility goals, providing clear announcements and natural-sounding reinforcement for events while seamlessly preserving the building's historic aesthetic.
